Situated close to the "Byes", it offers varied coastal walks, fishing and swimming. The beach is shingle with sea washed sand and rock pools exposed at low tide. 500 foot high cliffs rising from the sea make for spectacular walking scenery. Places to visit include the Donkey Sanctuary, Crealy, Bicton Gardens and many NT properties. Walk the Jurassic Coastal Path taking in Beer, Seaton, Branscombe, or take a boat trip around the coast. The medieval port of Lyme Regis is 17 miles, the quiet backwaters of Culm Valley and the Blackdown Hills are 23 miles and Seaton is 11 miles. Shops and pub 50 yards, restaurant 500 yards. Sidmouth is an attractive coastal town in East Devon, on the estuary of the River Syd. Part of the Jurassic coastline it has cliffs at each end of its promenade, notable for their distinctive colour. Sidmouth has a population of about 15,000 but is popular with tourists who are looking for a quite, but varied holiday location.
Sidmouth has a good range of shops and restaurants, is easily accessible by road and bus, had good leisure and sporting facilities and a beach, which whilst mainly pebbled, is also sandy at lower tide.
